WITH YOU, I AM HOME
Some say “the owner is everything to a dog”, but I beg to differ. I think my dog, Pang Pang, is as important to me as I am to her. Pang is not a pet; she’s my best friend, my loyal companion, my therapist, my pillow, my muse, my playmate, my source of happiness, amusement, and comfort. She is my family. I take care of her physically yet she takes care of me mentally. Perhaps, secretly, I am a bit envious of her too: she is just too lovable and friendly, and so people are drawn to her very easily. I am still amazed by her every day. Her sassy attitude, her expressive eyes and ears, and the way she looks like a tough bulldog but acts like the sweetest, calmest cat at home (well, except when she’s hungry). To me, she is perfect.
Some also say “the dog picks up from the owner”, maybe Pang did pick up some personality traits from me since we’ve been together for over 9 years, but I think even more so, she is a reflection of me. She knows me too well, whenever I am happy or sad, she would reciprocate my energy and do exactly what I need the most at the moment. Everything feels right when she’s around. When I draw, she usually just sleeps right next to me, and to me that’s one of the most grounding feelings ever.
“With you, I am home” is a small collection of six drawings. Although Pang is the main subject in these drawings, I also consider this to be a collection of self portraits. They show how Pang and I interact in those intimate moments and how much her presence means to me. In her eyes, I see love, compassion, and trust and I believe these are the things she sees in me too.
I hope you enjoy this collection of drawings along with the small portraits of Pang. If you haven’t already, I hope you will find your version of Pang Pang very soon.
